Ideas for children to help and connect with animals while in quarantine
  1. Read to pets. If you have a pet at home, you can encourage your child to read aloud to them. This is a great bonding opportunity, as well as beneficial to children’s development. You can also join Pet Partner’s WE ARE ALL EARS pledge. They have resources for families participating in the program.
  1. Make toys for shelter animals. From catnip stuffed pillows to t-shirt toys – there are endless ways to repurpose old household items and turn them into toys for pets. Click here and find a list of 10 easy DIY dog toys. Or google “DIY pet toys” and find thousands of options to pick from.
  1. Ask for birthday donations instead of gifts.Teaching children from a young age that they can give back in small and big ways is truly empowering. A few organizations we low to give back to (with time or money) are: Wags & Walks, Freedom Service Dogs of America & Rescue Dogs Rock
  1. Go on a walk. Take your child and their best furry friend on a walk. Let them hold the leash (if safe) and give them the opportunity to lead the way. Giving them control allows them to practice responsibility and practice taking care of their furry friend. Our Short Susan Leashes have the perfect handle size for children to hold onto.
