Where to adopt a dog in New York
We are seven months into the pandemic, and instead of searching for toilet papers, humans are searching for a best furry friend. We are asked everyday about where is the best place to get a pet. Our answer is always to consider adoption. We've rounded up a few resources and rescues where you can find your new best friend.
1. Animal Care Centers of NYC (ACC)
Looking for a cat, rabbit, guinea pig or dog? The ACC is one of the largest databases for adoptable pets in NYC. You can filter by animal type and location.
2. Rescue Dogs Rock (RDR)
RDR takes on the rescue of some of the most abused and neglected dogs from around the country. They cover medical expenses and the recuperation of these beautiful souls until they are ready to go home to their forever home. When you adopt from RDR you can be sure that you are saving a life. The people behind RDR are truly heroes.
3. Muddy Paws Rescue
Muddy Paws is known for it's great fostering program. If you are interspersed in saving a life, but not sure if you should adopt, fostering is a great option. You can apply on their site and will be notified once approved to foster.
4. Social Tees
This rescue takes animals from kill shelters and puts them into foster homes with vet care until they are placed in their forever homes. They often have small dogs that will make your heart melt.
5. The Sato Project
The Sato Project saves dogs from Puerto Rico's Dead Dog Beach. They rehabilitated these dogs and bring them over to the U.S. for adoption. They also host spay, neuter, and microchip programs in Puerto Rico - working to make a permanent change for animal welfare in Puerto Rico.
